Luthien

Luthien's ears trembled with mirth; she began to laugh at Marc's demand. "Heh. Hehehe—I'll see what I can do. You're acting like I can just order her around. I believe she's busy right now, but I can promise that your proposals will at least get heard." Luthien replied with a wink and a cheeky stuck-out tongue.

She stretched her arms out and cracked her knuckles. "Whether she agrees depends both on what you can offer and what sort of impression you make."

Marc

"Ah, then I better try to look the part of a reliable handsome devil..." He rubbed his temple. "Hey, since you know her, you must have a bit of advice! Sooo... I'm all ears!" He hopped right next to her with his chair glued to his butt, and sat riiight next to her.

"Can't tell you. But maybe it's because I'm a nice sweet empathic lad deep down." He tilted his head with a casual expression, neither happy nor angry.

"And don't give me that much credit, I didn't weaken much - your defenses are already quite poor. I don't know what that idiot was spouting, but as far as the floor administrator goes, I'm one of the weakest. But if *they* show up at this rate, this city won't hold a day. That's all I can say, so don't ask further." His words were serious and as boastful as they might sound, his tone was nothing but sincere.

"Take our little amusement as a wake-up jolt. If you don't get your act together and start seeking allies, this divided kingdom will soon crumble to naught. With or without me." He sighed and stretched. "In the meantime, I see no reason why I should accelerate it. Your company isn't too terrible either."

"The mission's details got wiped the moment I completed them, but I figure I must've been paid in advance to accept terms so stringent." He shrugged as if he weren't sure himself. "What I do remember is that the first part was to gauge five district's defenses. The second, to get rid of impediments that might get in the way. I didn't get to meet my employer face to face, but for insurance, they placed a mental lock on me to make sure I didn't spill any compromising information. As long as the target was eliminated, any secondary goal was just that, secondary."

He looked away for a second, his expression hiding some kind of mischief. But it was honest, in an odd way. He wouldn't have come this far just to bullshit her.

"Of course, the only reason I can say this much is that my employers must have deemed it unnecessary to hide... but I wouldn't pry too hard. Part of that lock included a killswitch that'd wipe my memory before... you know..." He feigned a dying expression to emphasize the point. "What matters is that the apocalyptic event didn't happen in three days. That means someone is working behind the scenes to stop it. That is my goal as well."

Beneath his dark shades, the vampire's brow furrowed - almost sadly. It was the sort of innocent statement that could get even a monster to pity you. "That just ain't true. There's plenty of irrational, senseless things around. You try to scrutinize every little thing, you'll end up seeing things you shouldn't see, believing things you shouldn't believe, assuming things you shouldn't assume."

He relaxed and stretched his neck.

"But as I said, it's not my job telling you what to think. You're better off believing what you want, it'll spare you a whole lot of pain." And with a grin like the crescent moon, he laughed. "All I can say is that everything went according to the mission. Same as last time." A hint of malice gleamed off his smile. "Three days were promised to you to make your peace, but that didn't account for timezones."

Luthien

The tanned elf crossed her shapely legs in an attempt to be seductive. Instead, she hiccuped, and glowed with the brilliance of the sun for a moment in embarrasment. "Ahem–that all sounds very nice. I'm actually out here to do some networking for my mother. To make connections, as well as to find myself within the walls of this city." Lu flicked the tips of her ears with some degree of interest.

She leaned in and smiled. "If that would be acceptable, I'd have to say this young elf is interested."

Marc

"Of course it's acceptable, you silly goose! And don't sweat it, I figured it had to do with something like that." He took a friendly swing down his drink and grinned amiably, before folding his hands together in front of his face. He was deep in thought for a moment.

"However, if you wouldn't mind, I'd like a small favor in exchange. It's no biggie, but I'd like to meet that person you speak of so much. Would you let me see her today? I'd like her blessing to proceed with this business transaction."

"Ha, don't tempt me. I can tell you have the age to back that up, but I'm enough of an idiot to try that anyway. Not like I care about my life, it's an ill-spent pile of shit wasted moving blindly the only ways I could. If I could change that, maybe I would serve myself better once in a while. But then, I wouldn't be me."

Try. That was a damned word. Because its implication was clear. Against her, against the squirrel, even here, he hardly made an effort or attempt to truly exert himself. It was a game, a sham, a sick little amusement that surely had no bigger purpose.

Then why go out of his way to kill that one man?

Why try?

"Other than that, your guess is spot on. That's exactly what I am." He grinned like he guessed her exact thoughts before she uttered them, yet he hardly seemed offended. He smacked his lips and sighed casually. "As for the why... who knows? The moment the sun glared on my drowned body, Its warmth glinted on my wretchedness. I realized I could either shoot or not shoot."

"Hoy, quit moaning like a deflowered wench, you're fine and in one piece. Can't say the same for your dear old friend there though, shame. Heh heh heh." His tone was grave and deadpan, but there was a lighthearted humor to the low growl-like laughter. A sick pleasure, as if he hadn't just killed a fellow teacher right in front of her eyes.

But even that subsided quickly, and Costin sighed.

"Look, I was careful to keep the casualties to a minimum. I'm not the type to go after women or children. The former can give birth to strong warriors, and with time the latter can become strong prey for my claws and fangs. There are only two kinds of people I'll kill: those with no rights, and those with worth."

A hint of something fierce and fiery slipped out his circuits, like a red haze shimmering for a moment. It was nothing more than his pure bloodlust, and the unshakeable voice that could pour out nothing but ironclad principled conviction. The earnes desire to wage battle, not just eat. Rather than a beast, it was the unmistakeable tone of a warrior.

"Villains with no right to live, and warriors worth facing with everything at my disposal."

Vega

Vega shrugged, far too focused on ingesting every last inch of the spicy concoction and sweating like an intense inferno - despite all that he seemed utterly unphased, and didn't show any pain at all. In fact, he looked like he enjoyed it.

"Oh, it's you. Sur- wait, a *pebble*? Pffffffffffffffft! I.. pfftt... pfftwahahahahahah! Oh my god, oh god! Really? Is that true Lily? My... ohohohohoho! A pebble. A pebble! I just, I... hahahahaha!" He rubbed his temple and snuggled with the smol demon, but if anything it was more of a distraction to keep himself from guffawing any harder at the squirrel-girl. The alcohol may have helped a bit, his mood was exuberantly great. But why wouldn't it be? "Sure, sure. Aaah, gosh, just imagining it made my day. You're paying for your meal though, this isn't a charity."

A pebble.

And that's when a daint finger trailed down her back with a pleasurable stroke - almost touching her tail's base, but trailing around the thin line where the back ended and the appendage started. "Now then... who exactly do you think you are? I can sing my own praises just fine missus, but if you talk on my behalf again I will tie you up and hang you upside down the tower whence you came. And that is an irrevocable promise." He said that with unmistakeable affection, to the point it didn't sound like a reproach at all - but an excuse to spank her thick butt right in front of everyone.

Its not even like it was beneath him. Any who dealt with him long enough knew he tended to be quite eccentric when it came to his pleasures. He gulped down another shot of sake greedily and laughed. "Ahhh, life is too short to bore yourself with restraint. Wouldn't you agree, friend Nanako?"

The vampire chortled cooly. "Hah, I'm not complaining, that's that - and this is this. Still, it takes a hundred years for one of our kin to be sealed up, and yet you've managed to do it in a day. That alone is praiseworthy... you're pretty good." He pointed a finger gun at her with a friendly smile. So she isn't a mage from my world. Good, I can keep using this then. "Well, whatever. It doesn't really matter. Apostles... it's a long story, and not particularly interesting at that. Bloodsuckers, parasites, a function of the world... believe whatever you want to believe. After causing all that ruckus, It's none of my business how you live your life."

And with a satisfied sigh, he laid back - relaxing himself like he was in a spa rather than a prison. Then again, compared to the prison he once dwelled in, this was an actual tropical paradise.

"Don't be too sour on the details or the methods. If I didn't go wild once in a while, I wouldn't get to meet all sorts of interesting fellas. We wouldn't be having a nice chat over this fragrant smell, and that would be... inconvenient for the both of us. By the by, is that a mediterranean blend? It smells pretty damn amazing."

Headmaster
Clocktower, 700 Feet Below Ground
At a later time

It hadn't been difficult to remove the vampire from the bottom of the lake or to restore the basic shape of the street he'd helped ruin. Acquiring the right measures to keep him safely restrained had merely been a matter of making the right calls and demands. Transfering him to the appropriate location had been more logistically complicated. It was a welcome surprise that he seemed unable to move effectively within water at all, but passing him through a door to his new holding place and placing the bindings without risking his release set a nervous mood upon everyone who had made themselves available to help. The Headmaster had smiled firmly with a severe bent to her eyebrows through the process, betraying no sign of turmoil until it was done.

Which brought them here. This grey and onyx room deep into the foundations of her home, where the vampire sat on a simple chair. His ankles and wrists were weighed down and bound together to the other with thick electronic manacles, red-tinted chains wrapped around his waist to connect to pillars equidistant from the center of the room, and multiple magic circles that limited his movement and vampiric might shone dimly on the glazed tiles of the floor. Entangling and self-devouring knots were engraved along the arches above his head and the variable width of the pillars every few feet, and orbs mounted upon the mid-point of the walls illuminated the chambers.

The two parts of the black iron door slid shut behind the Headmaster, forming once more an undecipherable sigil in relief on its surface. She came in with a steaming cup and a chair, and saw about setting them both down, one on the utilitary table in front of her prisoner, and the other on the floor, unfolded, before she proceeded to sit.

"Now. I don't believe I caught your name," she said. After a moment, she pulled the hood down, revealing the slightly unkept bun and pinned braids of her hair. "What do you say we begin there?"

Costin Andrei

"Ah..." His messy hair dripped down the cool floors, the magnificent braided mane of his undone by the prior battle. Wretched. Defeated. But the apostle hardly looked like the loser of that battle. His form and wounds were mended perfectly. Not a single open wound, nor a broken bone to claim his. The only wounds and scars on his body were old, ancient things best left forgotten. But without so much as a rat crawling these dungeons, he amused himself scraping at the floors.

Scraping, scraping, scrape. Like a claw digging inside your skull. The sound reverberated sickly, like a mad pitter-patter. But it wasn't mad or senseless. Even a small ritual like this could hold off the dark impulses swirling in his mind.

Step. Step. Step...

And then the steps. He heard them from so far away, his lips quaked in anticipation. Hatefully, the vampire salivated. Her scent. Her form. The music-like sounds were this close to him - and as if by some sorcery, these sensations dulled the scrapings and the scratchings. As if her presence was more calming than any of that violence. In a way, you could tell he liked her.

Because of that, he took his time. He didn't act so abrupt as to spit out a curse or an injurious phrase. He took the time and care to answer her thoughtfully.

                                                                                Extinction
"Former 14th member of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors. [絶滅] , Costin Andrei." And yet Costin's lips were curled up like the broken glass moon, betraying his good mood. Truth be told, for a guest, he was behaving himself extraordinarily well... at least in the cage. Even if he couldn't move through water, he hardly attempted to flee or resist - and he hardly harmed any of his jailors. Of course, she was no exception. "Ku ku ku... If I did, I would not share with such a rude visitor. Those were your words, nameless mage. And yet you'd ask me something so bold with your lonesome cup in hand, and after chaining me so thoroughly. What am I to make of that?"

"You could say that." He pointed a suave finger at her and winked, before laying back and twirling his nice cool glass. "Money, mainly. A stable, profitable income with benefits, vacation and full compensation. Connections and networking, with the opportunity to make a name for yourself. A place to belong to. Friends for when you need them. You'll be provided your own lodging, tools and vehicles to represent our company."

He leaned forward a bit and smiled welcomingly.

"My secretary makes a mean turkey-ham sandwitch."

He blinked a bit when she poked him with those sudden words, but all it drew was a cool accepting sigh. "Hmm, hm. I suppose so, you won't find a place in this city that doesn't profit off someone in one way or another. If you disagree, well... chances are you're being exploited yourself. It is what it is."

He poured another drink, this time in a cup so he could offer it to Lu before helping himself. "Pwah... that's the stuff. Anyways, the point is I'm a perfectly normal business all things considered. I mean, I've never harvested anyone's kidneys, turned elvenfolk in the flesh markets, bombed nursing homes or any of the crazy shenanigans some of the... other flavorful entrepreneurs find profit in nowdays. Honestly, that stuff never sat right with me, code of chivalry and all. But the city's the city. Even Yamada's gotten tired of policing everyone and everything, not that I blame him. Last thing I need is to deal with some madman wannabe trying to become the next God in our list."

He raised a toast to her.

"Which, luckily for me, means the insurance and security market's ripe with all sorts of jobs. At least enough to provide for a sizeable team, with benefits and job protection included. You'd fit right in, honestly. You've got the muscle to do a lot of good in this part of town."

"Woah." He took a gulp from another nearby bottle. "You're asking the big questions now." And another one. "Pwah..." There was a small, suspenseful silence. Not because he had to think too hard, but because he wasn't going to NOT be a little dramatic when he was already... how many drinks in? Not like he counted.

"Well, like you saw on that book, I started off as a mercenary in a PMC for a few years. Me and my team mostly dealt in security, and I did a few odd jobs here and there, mostly contracted work here in pine garden. One of our big jobs was actually dealing with the fallout of a big disaster that nearly wiped off this district off the map, believe it or not! I dare say I was a pretty kickass and famous guy." He took a chair and offered it to Lulu, before grabbing one and helping himself.

"Well, some things led to others, and the job didn't really work out. After the blight, a lot of the old fixers moved to other fields or retired, and most of our members went MIA or ended up doing their own thing. As for me, a washed-out grade 9 fixer - through and through. Now I'm what you call an aspiring entrepreneur working in a booming economy. I manage a good handful of local businesses, and those I don't, I keep regular communication with."

"Bro...hic" He rubbed the back of his head, half shocked half fascinated. He reached for his pocket to get another flask, looked at it, shrugged -

And started gulping it down greedily too himself. A few glugs later, he emptied it completely.  "Woooooooooooooo! So, the elven alcohol... still interested to learn! Pleeease? Please please  please  please  please  please  please  please!!"

He looked at her like a cute puppy.
