Incredible. The more she opened herself to him, the more her own power surged. He could witness it now, almost in its entirety, just how beautiful her might was. But it was for naught. His own soul was coursing through her like electricity ran through circuitry.

Like a parasite or a virus, he was spreading through the tiniest of gaps and connecting with her, nearly merging with her soul but not quite. His hands grasped onto something, and all of a sudden, several magical circles appeared around them, spinning slowly like cd records as they ran through her information. But all of a sudden, the ritual was interrupted as crimson lightning cracked violently into his arms, shattering metal and magic alike.

Hrm. I see...

Had it been any longer, he might have permanently lost use of his arms as the threads forming his soul would've snapped and melted away. Instead, he managed to pull just in time, though the machinery and gears were already starting to melt inside her. Despite the gruesome sight, he didn't seem perturbed in the slightest, as if the loss of his arms meant nothing to him. The connection was short lived, but it was enough to get a good grasp of her gate, even if incomplete.

His mangled, burnt arm pressed onto her once more, and a lightning shock brought her heart back to life, awakening her forcefully. He didn't even give her time to rest or recover, as if he knew it was meaningless to give her such time.

"That seal of yours, was it a god's work?" He asked her with a grave voice that betrayed no sympathy.

"Woah, thanks pal!" He cheered at her generous gift, claiming all the cotton candy for himself. "Heh heh heh, just you wait..." Ant all of a sudden, he spun with an incredibly graceful maneuver, swirling with impossible speed and beauty while waving his arm dramatically. As if by magic, the moment he stopped, something about him seemed different.

"Bow down to the sugar lord!" He claimed for all to witness, for the king of all modern capitalistic sweets now stood before them, with his lordly mane of sweet pink fluttering freely on his skull, curling with the most aesthetic of natural curls.

The giant shifted awkwardly across the filthy sewer's corridors, trying to squeeze his way past some of the tighter passageways. Despite all that was said and done, he finally got used to all of the filth and didn't seem to mind as much anymore, if he truly minded in the first place.

"Ho, do you come around these places often? It doesn't suit you too well." He bantered casually, not because he cared, but because the walk was starting to bore him more than anything.

"Awesome! It's an honor to get to be friends with someone so great. Mhhhhh, people nowdays make cotton from candy. I've always wanted to try that!" He laughed along, enjoying the girl's over the top energy and riding the wave. "Well, it might be tricky for now, but I'm sure I'll be able to eventually! Haha!"

And suddenly, the pirate had a great idea.

"Hey, why don't we stop to the amusement park first?"

"I can understand." He said gravely, his tone baring no emotion yet betraying a hint of envy at the woman laying before him.

He grabbed one of the creatures beforeit managed to slip into Lucy, and squeezed it gradually until its entire shape looked deformed, yet it didn't seem to break or pop. It would have looked ridiculous, if his expression wasn't so sombre. Interesting, was this a part of her as well?

Was he taking his time, or simply hesitating? Tch, ridiculous, he had no reason to in the first place. He raised his arm, for a second it seemed to glow before he brought it onto her chest. There was a spark of light, then the world turned black. Her chest made no further sound as the shock stopped it and all vital functions. He has about eight minutes to operate on her safely.

At least, assuming her physiology was human in the first place.

His fingers drew strange shapes and symbols in the air, growing around the two corpses like aetheric branches filled with scriptures and formulas.  The strings of thaumaturgical code formed shapes and surrounded Lucy while his fingers worked inside her, entering her body as if she, or he, was no longer tangible in the first place. This would be difficult, he had never operated on such a great soul. If he had to compare it to something, it was like trying to grab onto the sun itself. A herculean task no doubt, one that would destroy his arms at best and annihilate his soul at worst, but he was prepared for that. As long as the formulas flowed steadily, her soul and his should be in sync.

Can you hear me?

RED

"O-okay." She nodded, suddenly brightening up before resuming eating at a slower pace. "Thish ish delichioush...!" She squeed at the amazing food, she never had anything like it!

"..."

It seemed he was far from impressed with her overtly cheery antics. He believed he told her, enough with the theatrics. This wasn't a war meant for childish women to fight, wether it be a facade or not.

"I'm not the one you should ask this to." He loomed over her figure while she laid on the table. "I need to stop your biological functions for a moment. Are you prepared?"

Lorenzo

"W-woah!" The pirate was dragged without having any further say into this, not that he disliked it, but sheesh! She was crazy strong! "Hey, do you always drag poor skeletons so roughly? The least you could do is buy me dinner first!"

"William is acquainted with a talented scholar on matters of the soul. I am a mere pupil in compare, and he'd know the same. Yet, you come looking for me." His voice was grave once more, as if he was deep in thought.

"I will see what I can do. Follow me."

And with that, he headed to the medical room at his own pace, uncaring if she lagged behind through the vast stairs and halls.

"..."

Her affirmation was proof of confidence. No, more than that, hit was confidence itself. The sort of arrogance born from power, the sort of absurdness brought by immortality. Surely she was the sort of person who wouldn't worry about having her head claimed in a heart's beat. That arrogance that carried the stench of the divine was the one thing he loathed most.

He did not take her hand, but he did do something much stranger. He laughed.

His booming voice, his great presence, all these were things that fit. They were cohesive with his persona, his character. You expected a great, wrathful warrior to display such might, therefore one who was accustomed to the unnatural would not be as unsettled as a mere man. But there was something very wrong with this scene, something deeply disturbing about how he smiled for that one split second and the way his laughter lingered. Because why would he laugh so hard, towards something so serious, as if it was all one big joke.

Ah, but that laugh too must have been a fake. He sighed, and in that moment the warrior resurfaced.

"I see, I see. Yes, I will honor our agreement, as will you. Now then, will you answer my question? The important one."

"You're the one who misunderstands. Friendships are based on trust. You offer me honeyed words and promises, and I have no need for either. Even if you tell me now that you will return the favor in kind, I do not know you or your true intentions."

The pressure faded, but it was almost like it gripped her own heart before disappearing. His words carried the sort of finality that only the oldest of beings can carry. "Sadly, I don't care about any of that. What you do with me or this world is of no concern to me, as long as I can get what I want. If you are the devil, you have picked the most boring target possible. There is no catharis to be found in my wish. But answer me this, how do you know of my intentions?"

The warrior scoffed and dismissed her words with a shake of the head, though for the first time he did crack a slight smile, though he didn't realize that himself as it was short lived.

"Ridiculous."

An incredible weight pressed over the expanse of the arena, though it was nothing physical in essence his words crashed across the recesses of the soul like waves. Strong, and angry, a wrath that had been contained for far too long. But the fact he was far from scowling only made his rage seethe further into the bone, for it was as cold as a tundra, enough to engulf the entire world in a mad search for vengeance.

"Your request is hollow and one-sided, the only one who has to gain anything is yourself. Even if you could promise me something, your words mean nothing. Tell me, if I was to open you up like a vulgar walnut, would I be able to use all that power as I please?" His expression bore no emotion, but his eyes peered into her like daggers.

"Woah!" He blurted out all of a sudden as he was kicked right into the hole and landed straight into the sewage, splashing into all sort of disgusting liquids and filth. "Ugh, what a pain..." He looked at his coat and shirt, all dirty and smelling like shit. He awkwardly tried standing, only for the sewage to spill back on the ground. Despite all that, he didn't stop smiling, as if his misery was somehow entertaining.

"Let's go."

Lorenzo

"Sheesh, you two..."  He rubbed the back of his burning skull awkwardly like he had just been sucker punched twice. Were they getting a kick out of this merciless bullying? Oh, of course, why did he even have to ask. Yes.

"Sounds like a plan. Well, I don't really need help with anything, but how about I help you help others or something? You know what they say, two heads are better than one, but three is a crowd. Whatchasay pal?" He held his hand out to the pink haired girl in a friendly manner.

He disliked her mannerisms already, but had that been the only thing he wouldn't have cared one bit. It was her attempt to open something that should never be opened that sealed this fate, in the end, she brought this upon herself. Well, that was only half the truth, the choice was and had always been his in the end.

"We both know neither of us have the heart for such a thing. And I believe I said enough theatrics." He spoke, his mind and heart unrestrained by her influences and attempts to read him. "Cease this, and do not ever do it again. We are not friends, accomplices at best. I will help you, and you will help me, and that will be the end of it." He spoke sternly.

There was a pause, heavy as the sea despite being of no notable length. In the end, he let his curiosity get the better of him and spoke.

"What is this Key you speak of?"

His fist clenched with unbelievable force for a second, space itself seemed to distort around his herculean frame. Such power, how ridiculous! Such a soul could hardly be called human, and the energy was far too vile to belong to a God. For a moment, he felt like a butterfly drawn by a hurricane, a speck of dust falling into an abyss. He had no heart, and yet his chest throbbed with such tremors he felt it might shatter.

Am I feeling... fear?

He refused to look for even a second longer. Despite the drawing promise of unimaginable power, he felt down to his very core that if he fell any closer to her, he would never be able to go back. It almost felt nostalgic.

...!

"You know too much." He grunted in displeasure. Yet another troublesome presence, the sort he did not know if he should dispose of, keep as close as possible or flee from. "Answer the question, with your own words."

Vanguard did not blink or flinch at the sudden light, but his eyes narrowed into a pallid glare, devoid of emotion yet wrathful. He had seen similar lights before, each as wretched as the last. Breath escaped his metallic throat, though it had no purpose or meaning to it in the first place. It might as well just be a fickle instinct.

"Enough with the theatrics. Your business means nothing to me. I take you request my assistance?"

What rubbish, he had no idea what she was talking about. That man was the same at times, talking about nonsense and trivial muck he had no way of understanding. Honestly, it was sometimes unsettling. He just didn't see a point in answering a question she likely knew the answer of. But at least she was intelligent enough to know better than to try that.

"What is your purpose here?" He asked her with the sort of cold tiresomeness you expect from those too old to deal with petty trivialities in the first place.
