So boring. Who could have guessed that someone so interesting would be swept up by so many meaningless things? She crams another pasty into her mouth, and she more swallows than chews it. They weren't bad, sure, but weren't they all getting a little tired of this? So she reaches over and taps the table with a finger. It pulses at her touch, wood blackening yet strengthening in response to her energies. Her eyes focus on the Headmaster's.

"Are you broken already, you old relic? He might be decrepit now, but him and his like are older than the foundations of this city. They've watched whole eras crumble. Yamada still lives, well, for now anyways. There are people who are more than just people." She tangles a finger in Kore's hair, ignoring the question directed towards her.

"That's much more important things for you to learn than the dirt. If you wanted to make something grow, that wouldn't be hard for you, would it?"

Fu Hua

Indulgence. Now this was something she could do. There was nothing she did partially. So she drank tea, and ate treats. Swallowed them, really. She would shift between practically eating things whole to slowly savoring them, taking minutes to chew over a single snack. "Ah, now this much better. I'm much more used to this." Fu Hua says it so casually, as if there was not a battle being waged right now between her and the headmaster.

Their energies snap at each other. Her corruption, her ego bleeding out into the world around her. A drop of ink turning the sea black. And at the same time the magic of that thing tries to stop her. It tries to serve as an obstacle. But it cannot. It controls but it does not change the substance. It can crush and mold, but it does not alter the fundamentals. It cannot prevent this place from becoming more of her, at least, not as easily as she can spread. The effort it takes to rid a canvas of paint is incomparable to the ease in which one can pour buckets of it onto the surface.

She loves winning. Especially when it is so easy.

Fu Hua

She presses herself into pages and cobblestone walls. Her spirits spreads through the cracks in the floor and spills into the air. The Headmaster might wield the world around her as a weapon, but Fu Hua is the world entire. Would her own limbs rebel against her? How much of this place would that thing have to break apart to even try and harm her?

The phoenix chews the inside of her mouth a bit, imagining it. That thing has always returned here, like a spirit or a god. Perhaps it will remain until every last student has been butchered, every book burned, every foundation torn to dust. Or maybe it would become her, as she paints this place in her colors, until she has become so much of it that it cannot harm her no more than a hand could harm the person entire. A rebellious limb taken over from within, brought to heel. That is also a rather satisfying thought. That thing would look good if there was more of her in it, no? Yes, that sounds quite entertaining!

She raises her hand, fingers like talons, ready to begin it now. But the chirping of a stray bird distracts her. Fu Hua stops, even as the entire building groans in the wasted anticipation of a furious battle come to nothing by a whim. "Hmph, no secrets. She simply wants to learn everything about the ants in the newest terrarium she has found. Tea... is good" Her eyes turn to the robed figure, and the gleeful, murderous glint in her eyes is far gone.

"You, thing, stay out of my way.  You are not the kind of being that can defeat me."

Fu Hua

"Well, this place is a bit of a dump now." It was an uncharitable thing to say, considering the holes that had been put into the massive building. But Fu Hua hardly look impressed at the devastation that had wrecked the area. Acid burns, fire, shattered walls, and pages littered the ground. A wave of her hands moves most of the rubble and trash out of their way, but it is difficult to find any part of the place that hadn't been marked by the previous conflict. "It looked much better when I was here last time, Kore."

Of course, Fu Hua does not say the words herself. Why would she? They slip into Kore's head, pressed into her spirit by the energies that cradle her body. More intimate than the whispers of lovers in bed. There is no need to let voyeurs listen in.

Case in point, the hooded figure with bloodstained hands that now stood in their way. Fu Hua smirks, raising a hand as books tainted with her energy flow out of harm's way. The ones that Kore shows interest in hovers overhead. "You're the headmaster, aren't you? Shouldn't you busy yourself with repairing this shabby looking place rather than getting in my way? I'm too busy with my date to crush you."

Mai

She looked sad? It was almost innocent enough to make Mai giggle. There was a familiarity to it, if a faint one. It slipped across the surface of her mind. A gentle, simple kindness. A smile that was warmer than anything else. That hand, why couldn't she take that hand?" She blinks with surprise, raising her hand to her face as if to wipe away tears. But her eyes are dry. Of course they are. The real surprise is the sword in her hand, how she reflexively drew it as if to cut... to cut down a memory

Her stomach turns, and she feels vaguely sick. A nausea that she can't quite place. For the second time before this girl, Mai attempts to relax and lowers her blade. She looked sad. Was that enough? "No," she replies, her gaze distant. "It isn't. Live as well as you can, Tsumiko. May your path be shorter than mine." And she continues to walk.

Fu Hua

The indecent ecstatic sensation of Fu Hua's energy sweeps through Kore's body without the slightest resistance. It weaves into her flesh, slips into her bones, nestles itself into the crevices of her spirit. There is a strange warmth in the feeling, filling the green-haired girl's cheeks with red. It is like being embraced, hands wrapping around her neck arms wrapping around her waist. Who in all of heaven and earth has ever wanted her so much? She can feel the depths of Fu Hua's hunger, the intoxicating ocean of desire she has let spill into her. The phoenix will never, never let her go.

Fu Hua will crush her to death in her claws before she ever escapes.

But how bad can such a thing be? Fu Hua's touch, and her hands hold Kore's now, is soft and gentle. The power that pulses in both their bodies recognizes itself, adores itself, draws them closer together. She can feel Fu Hua's hand caress her heart. Yes, if anything else, Kore will never be alone again. Even if she were to be lost again in that empty void, the hollow world constructed by her own hands, she would never be alone. Because Fu Hua is with her.

"So then," and there is an undeniable smugness in her voice, "there is nothing holding you back now, is there? What is it you want to do first, Kore? I am willing to give you the first choice. You are mine, so anything you want can be yours."

Mai

"For what reason?" It was not suspicious, for suspicion was reserved for those who had been burned. It was the confusion of an idea that was fundamentally foreign. "We hold nothing in common. You do not know me in any way. There is no need to rub shoulders with another simply because you both carry wounds." She turns around then, her sword at her side, and begins to walk away. But a moment of hesitation brings her footsteps to a halt. The sin of her creation? Mai looked towards her own blade. It was not evil. It was not cruel. It did not want to be born, did not want to be anything. It was not capable of such feelings.

Only she was. How infuriating.

So Mai turns around. At the very least, she cannot keep quiet about this. Even if it is tiresome and a distraction she must address it as cleanly as possible. A thorn in the foot may be ignorable for a single step, but after a thousand it is agony. "There is no sin in being born, only in creation. If that alone constitutes your sins then abhor your makers, but their evils are not yours."

That is suitable enough, is it not? She is no sage to give lessons and dispense wisdom. A few words are fitting enough for her. So she turns away and resumes her walk, blade still in hand.

Fu Hu

"Your pitiful self-denial is the only thing wasting my time." There was little heat in her voice now, only a vague annoyance that was hard to place now that her frown was gone. Fu Hua shrugged her shoulders and gracefully swept the tension from her body. A smile naturally made its way back onto her face. "But it seems like there's at least some reason for it. That face you made before... I quite like it. Furious. Dominating. How dare she say such a thing to me!" The air swells with distorted echoes of Kore's own voice, a raised tone that makes the bark peel from trees.

Fu Hua strokes her chin as she furrows her brow in thought, yet her eyes seem to take in Kore with a new light. "Yes, you are quite strong, aren't you? So full of regret you might burst like one of those fruits. You do not like to be this way, but you think the alternative is worse. That is acceptable." She lets out a small huff.

"A bit of restraint is necessary, sometimes," Fu Hua admits. "But there are ways you can have both desire and control. You must simply be willing to surrender it to someone else. I will be generous, Kore. I will personally make a leash for you. So long as you do not struggle to break it, you will not be able to harm anyone. And if you attempt it despite that, I will be able to stop you. Entrust yourself to me, and you will never be a demon again."

Her hand caresses Kore's face. It is not calloused, though one might have expected it. Her skin is soft, smooth, and more unyielding than steel. Then she presses a finger right to Kore's lips. It pulses with an immense concentration of negative energy. For most beings, it would be almost obscene to accept that much foreign power at once. Yet it was also exactly what was promised. A cage of silken ribbons, strong enough to ensnare Kore. Strong enough to hold even the Demon King still, should it walk the earth again.

Fu Hua

"Haaah?" If Kore had spit in her face, it is not possible that Fu Hua could sound more offended. Before the other girl's skirt had stopped fluttering Fu Hua was already before her. Already, the martial artist can hear the rebuttals of a stupid girl before they're even said. Because it is her duty. Because it is her responsibility. Because it is right. It makes her stomach turn. A strained smile coats her face, as sweet as poison. "I don't get it. Are you just going to run back whatever shack you live in, pretending like what you want isn't right there?"

The air is heavy. As tense as the weight of a sword hanging from the ceiling, dangling from a single thread. Displeasure all but radiates from gleaming red eyes. "Friend," and the word is as barbed as a thorn bush, "let me give you advice. Whatever place you came from might as well be gone. What you do now has no impact on the dead. If you punish yourself for their sake, you're just gratifying yourself. Oh, look at how awful I am!"

She waves a hand through the air as if for dramatics, but the violent force of it sends spiderweb cracks through the earth below them. "We should go to the city. It will be the best chance you ever have. You will not regret it."

Mai

"What concern is that of yours? If there is any blame to assert, it is not with me." She points her finger towards the arcane towers and sorcerous workings at the true heart of the district. "Their hunger for secrets and knowledge is all-consuming. If it was not me, I am sure one of their ranks would descend upon any curiosity of note. That is the nature of those who would poke their instruments into the wounds of the world."

Her brow furrows with an irritation that borders anger. She will never understand those who so recklessly utilize their own abilities for an ideal of knowledge identical to greed. As for herself, for her sins, there are none alive who would hunt her for such a thing. The maggots and worms have stolen those secrets from their tongue. Who would wish to speak of it? She has said enough to fill the frozen hells for today. But Mai can recognize a hook, a question meant to dig and prod not for the sake of another but one's own satisfaction. At the very least, this girl does not look so deranged that it was for pleasure.

So Mai merely frowns, her hold on her sword firm. "I do not know what you wish from me, but you will not find it. My crimes are not yours. ...And you are a child. If you have committed evils, then you have a life to make up for them. If others have asked it of you, then the blame is far from yours alone."

Fu Hua

The fruit rots before it hits the ground. Its withered husk almost dry as it burst, maggots writhing in the decaying flesh and spoiled juice. Fu Hua sighs then, a disappointed look on all three faces that could make anyone's heart clench. "So callous of you. I offer you so much of myself, and you're already looking for other people." And with a wave of her hand the two copies crumble into dirt and splintered wood. It is with a gracious shrug that the upset look and sadness simply fell off of her.

"So, you want to know about this place then?" And her arm wraps again Kore again but... differently. There's a casual, careless air to it as she pulls the girl forward. No, even that sounds a bit wrong. Buddy? Chum? Pal? "Friend," Fu Hua decides, "you don't understand what you're asking."

Stairs come up from under their feet as they walk, a rising spiral of wood and stone so beautiful it almost hurt. Her will carves every inch as if by hand, flowers blooming in the heavens as they ascend. Beautiful, so long as one ignores the clearing below that only grows more putrid with every moment. But perhaps that only makes this rising tower more beautiful. It is only when the city, bustling and alive, can be seen that the tower finally stops growing. "After all, it's not like we're that far away from them. No, you're thinking of a very different kind of question' arent you? Let me guess... 'Do I deserve to be among them?' It's something like that, isn't it? You might understand me a little, but that means I understand you too. You're never going to enjoy yourself like that."

She swings out her arm in a grandiose gesture, the wind screaming furiously at the force of her arm moving through the air. "None of that matters here! No one apart from me even knows your name. Pick something you can see and we'll go there." Hm, was that enough? That would never be able to convince that girl but her new friend didn't seem that dumb. "It's not any different from gardening. You were already enjoying yourself, so now that you're here you should take full advantage of it."

Mai

Mai spares the man a quick, careful glance. Her piercing gaze checks his armor for any damage, any hint of blood, but only the gap she had carved early remained. For now, it seems she can trust the other girl's word. That was... relieving. While she did not look much older than her, there was a newness and uncertainty to Tsumiko's face like a child's. It would not bring her any joy to shed her blood. Still, her sword is as ready as ever even as she gives the knight a dismissive look. Her eyes only slightly narrowed, she points away towards the grand spires of the Citadel proper.

"Go, pawn. May this stranger's interference be satisfactory enough to spare your life, should you return to your master." Stumbling to his feet, she notices the hesitation in his posture for a moment. But perhaps the experience taught him enough wisdom. The knight stumbles off back to the depths of the city. Mai almost... no, she does feel pity for him. If only because he returns since he knows nothing else.

But she cannot shoulder the responsibility of all who suffer. Instead, she looks towards Tsumiko with the vaguest tinge of curiosity. "Where will you go now?" It felt too cruel to simply leave. Even she was not so heartless as to abandon children on the street.

Fu Hua

Kore is given time to savor, to enjoy, to experience. Life could be so rich, if you allowed it to be. One of the shades by the gardener's side was lifted up by the ground beneath her. Just enough so she could reach the taller girl's chin and lick the dripping juice that trailed from her mouth. Sweet, as always.

It was the other that began to pick at the bag Kore held, almost greedily swallowing up whatever was offered. But the original was before Kore as well, only a blur and a rushing wind before she found the white haired woman before her. Then, Fu Hua simply rests her hands on Kore's shoulders, a rising root keeping them eye level.. "I'm not usually so forward," she admits, as if she has not had been caressing the other girl within her spirit since they met. "But you seem to be a... reticent person. A bit of prodding can help with that."

The shade cleaning the slight mess Kore made of herself lets out a slight huff of displeasure when there is nothing left. So she simply rests her head on the girl's shoulder as the original continues. "You seem unused to people. Though you are right. You are taller than me. I can appreciate that. But before I tell you anything else, let me ask you something. " Then she points at the bitten fruit in Kore's hand.

"Did you enjoy that?"

Fu Hua

"Hmm~, you're smaller than I expected." The voice didn't come from the figure in the center of the garden. Instead, an identical copy of her pulls itself from the ground and surveys the green haired girl with an almost gleaming focus. A tree behind them shatters into chips of wood and decaying pulp as another Fu Hua emerges from it. This one walks right up to the curiosity and holds the girl's free hand, giving a few thoughtful squeezes.

"With the call you gave, I was suspecting a calamity," says the one in the clearing.

"This isn't quite the same, but I can't say that I'm disappointed," says the one but a few steps away, framing the stranger with her fingers.

"You do have very soft hands for a monster, after all. But there's a good firmness there," says the one holding her hand.

The woods surround the clearing close in on themselves. The branches and roots warp together, trunks bend and do not break, and with a pulse of malice it cuts them off from any direct voyeurs. Though, if that were not enough she could impale any interloper with a thought.

Then the two copies sandwich the green haired girl between them, gently trying to pull her towards the garden as the original holds her hands out. "I, Fu Hua, have come to acknowledge you. I made this garden only for you. Take whatever you want from it." Fu Hua was not so vain that she would pick any common trinket to adorn her. To acknowledge was to desire; to desire was to attain. Even if only to peel apart the mystery, her whimsy had left her with no other choice but to take ownership of this stranger.

"Though," she sighs, "I am not unwilling to answer your questions even if you spurn my gifts."

Fu Hua

The forest rots. Corruption pours through it, infecting the life within. Maggots spill from the earth. They fester in the ground her feet trample on, as if they were feasting on the dead soil itself. Ancient trees groan in agony as their trunks splinter. Blood red sap drips from them as their leaves visibly age and fall. Fu Hua's face twists into a slight frown, but neither her putrid surroundings or her expression mar her loveliness.

No, even that is insufficient. Surrounded in decay, she appears even more beautiful.

But she is frowning nevertheless. She clicks her tongue in irritation, and she gestures towards the death around her in mild distaste. Honestly, was it any surprise that she preferred the city? This was not so bad, but it was hard to have pleasant company like this. These old places always seem to have it out for her, forcing only the most brutish acts! Well, again, she didn't really dislike that. But it just wasn't convenient all the time. She was looking for someone after all. It'd been so long since anyone had put out such a loud and broad call.

So she gently shepherds her target towards her. Fu Hua's will shapes the forest, sculpting dense woodlands to guide the strange girl to her. All to bring the girl to the clearing she had forcible emptied and forced to bloom, a cornucopia of flowers and fruit feeding on and concealing the devastation.
