Since we have a few female users, I'd figure I'd make this thread (though you boys are welcome to join in as well ;D). Since the general visual novel thread is likely going to be filled with bishoujo games for the most part, I figured I'd make a separate thread for otome. So talk about them in here! (threads for individual games if there's enough room to discuss them are fine too, btw).

I'd actually like to play an otome game, but most of them aren't translated or are simply BAD. Any recommendations?
-
This is a list of all the not completely terrible ones out in English right now at least:
http://www.englishotomegames.net/list (http://www.englishotomegames.net/list)
However, I'd probably recommend the Second Reproduction. I've started playing it and it seems pretty interesting so far, and the protagonist isn't the same helpless protag they tend to often tend to put into these games. :)
I think another one a lot of people would recommend (though I haven't played yet) is Hatoful Boyfriend. It's weird as hell (the love interests are all giant talking pigeons or other species of bird), but I've heard nothing but good things about it.
If you don't mind me recommending more OK-ish games I can recommend you some more, but those are my top picks. :D

As long as "ok-ish" is better than awful I do not mind at all.
Thanks for the link and recommendations.

No problem at all! :D And yup, OK-ish in this case is definitely better than awful. :)
Girlish Love Revolution I thought I would hate, but it was really sweeter than I thought it would be, plus the whole losing weight thing the protagonist has to do is actually pretty fun, so I'd probably give it a try.
The Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side games are also both worth a try, as is Yo-Jin-Bo.
The Harvest Moon games where you can play as a girl and Fire Emblem Awakening are also musts, as they count as well (the former much more than the latter though, but Awakening actually fits rather well considering that the Avatar can marry any of the male units), even if they probably aren't technically considered more traditional otome (though Harvest Moon kinda fits pretty well actually). The former will likely get it's own thread relatively soonish, and the latter already has the Fire Emblem megathread.
Hopefully you'll have fun with at least one of these recommendations, if not more. :D

Reviving this to say that there's a new otome based off of FSN out:
http://fate2013.weebly.com/download.html (http://fate2013.weebly.com/download.html)
It's based around Saber/Arthur and her knights of the round table. It's also in English. So for all who are interested, there you go. :)
Also, does anyone think I should make a seperate thread for this in Type Moon GD, or just leave it here?
-
Making a seperate thread probably makes sense, since it's a TM game.
-
Well, technically it's a fan game based off of a TM game. :) But yeah, I can go ahead and make a seperate thread for it.
-
The forum is making an Otome game. Or at least we're intending to.

Talking of Otome games, it would have been great if Heart no Kuni no Alice had an English patch. I never cared about Otome games and most anime adaptions of them are failures but HnKA had the most interesting idea for me. And the heroine was not some damsel in distress.
-
You're actually in luck in this case. :) It has a ways to go, but there's a patch for the updated version in the works, and it's still active.

^ Wonderful but sadly, the translation has such a little progress for such a long game.
Now also, if they ever translated Shinigami to Shoujo... It looks pretty neat and I heard that it has a solid story.
