Nanashi

She saw it, only a flash, the man’s arm swinging and the bots of silver cutting through the air right towards her. She turn in mid and with her hands threw balls of fire at her pursuer. The balls flew at him, and then lit up. The exploded into a shower of white light, shining with blinding light, as a loud sound ripped from them.

Repurposed will’o’wisps that lack any actual power, just producing light and sound. Flashbangs basically. They would generally more harmful to her in a fight then helpful but… well, being momentarily deaf definitely had its perks.

She wasn’t able to dodge all of them though, and one just barely made a cut in her leg. But she continued, adrenalin pumping and blocking out the pain. Using the distraction from the fire balls got to the top of the roof, tapping her hand against it and leaving a lotas trap in her path as she ran. It was not long though until she ducked into one of the many alleyways and dived into an open window, hoping to lose the man.

Once she got inside she took a moment to breath. And then it hit her. Pain, a roaring pain seared up her leg. She bit down on her scarf to prevent her from screaming. It was like her leg was just dipped in fire, searing the sensation into her mind. Holy. Those daggers were fucking holy.

She should have made Flame Armor, something to dampen the blow so it didn’t feel like her leg was just covered in boiling oil. She should have anticipated it, expected it. But she didn’t. And she fucked up. That whole case was pathetic on her part, she didn’t unload on the beast with everything she had, she was to carful, too happy to just avoid the man and attack it carefully.

That won’t be the case next time. That’s for sure.

She sat there for a moment, feeling the pain begin to subside as her energy filled the area with the wound. She was… not running on empty. There was a fair bit left in her tank. Enough for a fight, probably a couple of advanced techniques. But she burned way to much excess during the chase. Strike Blazes to help move, the flames bellowing back in the alleyway. Not to mention the energy still funneling to her ears and now cut on her right leg.

Eventually the pain subsided, it felt like a while, but it couldn’t have actually been that long, and Nanashi rose to her feet. Dipping back into an alleyway, she felt her illusion take hold again, letting her blend in with the crowed with a bit more ease, she began to follow the smell of the monstrosity, and the dissipating traces of her spiritually energy.

And in the direction she moved, a tower loomed.

A dark tower that seemed to hold up the very sky.

“This is going to suck.” She mumbled to herself.

Fiona

Silvergray eyes looked back down at the man, focusing on the direction the crow vanished in. Her fingers wrapped around the silver cross that hung from her neck, the grip tightening. “I-I can’t see though their eyes. But they’re good, really clever. He will come back and tell me what he saw.” She said, almost as if trying to convince herself of that fact.

Shaking her head she cleared it of worry, trying to regain her focus, as she crouched down and looked over at the man and the plaza. As she racked her mind for anything else that might be useful. She… didn’t have any plants that would be useful. Well, Alfalfa maybe. But luck was generally helpful.

When it worked at least.

Maybe… an incense of Chamomile? It would make him relax, make it harder for him to notice. Oren could easily help her slip by then. It wouldn’t be as strong as if it was a liquid but it could work?
Letting out a pitiful whine, “I know I should have studied more, there is definitely something that would be helpful.” She mumbled sadly, as her arms wrapped around her knees.

She didn’t want to fight, she didn’t want to not trust them. She wanted to believe in them, that they just wanted to get home, she did to, everyone here probably wanted to. To see their friends again, to see their family again. She wanted to trust that these people, Brigida's people, were just people like that, that she could believe in that fact. But Oren’s words were like a poison seed planted directly into her mind. The thoughts constantly popped up, and with it a pang in her heart.

How could Brigida had shrugged off that impact? How did she know about her making the Garden? What if they had something bad planned for her? What if they lied about what they wanted? What if they wanted to hurt her? What if they want to hurt the Garden itself somehow? That shouldn't be possible, but...

What if… what if… what if… So many what ifs.

It hurt, why did it hurt, “I-I don’t know.” Her voice choked as she felt an incredible pressure in her chest, like a leed weight was just put on top of it and was sinking into her gut.

She didn’t know what to do.

But she hoped from the core of her being that the crow would make that choice for her.

Nanashi

Nanashi saw the man get within her path, trying to stop her and yell something. She could only hear a faint buzzing though. So whatever he said complete escaped her. She could smell it; she could feel her spiritual energy lingering on the girl. She let her hand come to her face as she groaned in realization.

She got… a bit caught up in the moment. She looked down at the man that was screaming at her… she didn’t really think she wanted to hear what he had to say. But she thought she might as well tell him. Maybe that would get him of her back. Or something.

“I CAN’T HEAR A THING!” She yelled far too loud, her lack of hearing becoming apparent, at him, before she began to climb the building, straight up

Was he actually going to get in her way? Oh well. That really didn’t matter. She might as well just go around. She could just track that thing based on the smell and traces of energy on the girl. She would just go along the rooftops.

It would also lower the chances the gangs would notice or something. That was the last thing she needed.

Bartee the Crow

He did not understand the reasoning of their Murder Queen. But he was a loyal crow, respectful of the ancient pacts that were long forgotten. So he would follow her command.  Perhaps she would grant him a boon of a deer carcass. Or perhaps she would allow them to eat the eyes of her new compatriot. Either way, he had a job to do.

And so Bartee flew, keeping site on the bald on that his mistress had been following, making sure to keep his distance and to be a discreet as possible.

Well, as discreet as a crow could be.

Fiona

Fiona watched as her crow continued to followed the bald man who had talked to the new arrival. She could not hear everything they said, only bits and pieces, but she did hear mention of a date, others, her and something about shoes?

Why would they be talking about shoes?

She blinked in confusion as just kinda... looked at the new arrival as the man walked away. She slowly turned to Oren, "...shoes? They want to give me shoes?"

Nanashi

Nanshi’s eye followed her attack, only absentmindedly noticing the bottle that tried to arc over its path. The attack streaked down the road, however before it could strike the monstrosity the girl jumped out of the way.

The sphere of fire struck her dead on, and fire ripped free of the sphere. The explosions ripped through the air, and the girl was sent sailing. But the beast was mostly untouched. So Nanashi moved, using her flames to pushed her along the surface of the building.

Then it happened again. A vision, from a distorted fate, from a pushed from somewhere else, was smashing against her. And then the moment it faded she smelt it. The smell of gas, coming from the buildings she was running on. But with only that to worry about, she reached for her power, and the fire responded.

Her body blasted with a sudden burst of speed, the fires trailing her as the jumped forward along her path. And the moment she jumped, a massive explosion ripped out from the window she was next to. Red flames roared outward along with the shockwave, but Nanashi escaped it. Well, except for the slight burning she felt in her tail. But it was something she could tolerate.

Now if only this stupid bitch would stop that. At least this guy wasn’t actually doing anything to stop her, that was a blessing at least.

Move, keep moving. She could see the monstrosity change direction, running into the center of the district. Right towards the…

Oh shit.

Her eyes widened, as the flames around her intensified and collected and focused . And then she exploded off the wall and through the air to the other side of the street, only absentmindedly noticing the man chasing her from the corner of her eye. Need to stop it now, before it gets to deep. There is no telling what the one there would do if he got its hands on something like that. The flames collected around her, as he back bent. She pointed her palm at the target, a sphere of fire hovering within it. The flames collected as she soared though the air, bending, growing, shining with a beautiful blue light. By the time it was ready she was almost on the other side.

Fox Fire, Strike Cannon!

The flames from the hand exploded, shooting the sphere of flames at the monstrosity, and the monstrosity with incredible speed, like a cannon ball. Her body flipped, and landed on the side of the wall, her one of her hands finding a grasping point while her feet sat on a windowsill. The other hand was still outstretched towards the creature.

Spoiler for Fox Fire, Strike Cannon:
A combination art between strike blaze and will’o’wisp. It forms a highly condensed sphere in her hand, and then using strike blaze to launch it with far greater speed. A variably powerful art and is capable of a fairly good output of damage. It can be pumped with more power up to a cap (if she goes above that it will literally explode in her hand), but in general the concussive force from the explosion and impact of the sphere is fairly dangerous to most things, not to mention the flames themselves.  An attack with fast travel time, but is apparent when it is about to be launched.

As she tried to regain her balance on the taught tarp she landed on, and could only hear a light buzz she could assume was screaming. She looked for her target, to see them running and the man that was defending them screaming, or saying… something at her. Her eyes squinted and ears twitched slightly, before she sighed and was able to rise to her feet.

She looked at her hands for a second, and her flames focused, becoming claws. And then the jumped. Her new claws of flame sunk into the wall, and the ones on her feet shortly after. And then the ran up the wall, with her hands occasionally sinking into the stonework to keep her balance and pace.

She had to get closer to that thing. Not to mention higher. She couldn’t get a good shot from here.

Fiona

Fiona watched from the back of her friend, her hand absentmindedly stroking her fur. Her ears twitched and eyes scanned the city, her mind working to process the information, the wolf spirit giving her aid.
Then below her Oren shifted back to her human form, and made it so Fiona was riding on her back. Sadly this surprised her, so she leaned back with a yelp and fell off Oren’s back, landing on her butt.

Getting back up she rubber her rear while groaning slightly, she pouted and looked at Oren, “Please don’t do that again…” She mumbled in a resigned fashion, knowing that her words would mean nothing.

Waking up to the side of the building she looked down, scanning for the man Oren pointed out. She then found him, a bald one with pointed ears. Her eyes narrowed, but the confusion was obvious. “What is going on…” She mumbled to herself.

She held out her hand, and after a moment a red tinted crow landed on it. She looked into its eyes, and then it cawed and flew off, tracking the man from above. She looked back to Oren, “Let’s… just follow him for a bit more, the crow will keep track of him. Something about this makes me feel uneasy.”

It was like a horror movie or something, something hiding its form so easily, for all she knew "Brigida" could summon a demon from the pits of hell to swallow them whole. Or something.

She was able to see the people, pointing and seeming to be screaming at the creature, some were simply frozen staring with wide eyes in shock. In a way it was a blessing she would not be able to hear.

Nanashi jumped, doing to best to close the distance between her and the abomination, before the world flashed before her. She saw, she was standing on a lamp post, flame in hand as she launched it at the abomination, fire roaring with intense heat. Then, something fell on her, and darkness.

When the world flashed back to normal she was falling, having missed the lampposts. Her hands shot out and she spun, like she was on a gymnastics bar. Then with a burst of flames she launched herself to the next one. She landed the next lamp post, and stopped jumping.

Then, she trusted her instincts and looked up. And then her jaw dropped.

A piano, a honest to god piano, fell out of the window, and was making its way at her. In a panic, she jumped, the flames exploding from her feet, launching her as quickly it could, only barely being able to avoid instant death, but she was able to quickly land on an awning

I want to apologize again. Shit hit the fan a bit, but everything should calm back down by the weekend. Sorry for the inconvenience.

8
Kat and Umbra, I will be unable to post tonight. I just got back and still have a ton more work to do. A lot of stuff got pushed on me at the last second. Sorry.

Nanashi

She saw it out of the corner of her eye, the toss of the jar, the reaching for the whip. Adrenaline pumped, flowing through her blood. The world slowed to a crawl, and the flames focused on her legs. Her weight shifted to her hand for a moment, before she smashed her legs against the pavement with all she could. The flames came with it, exploding from her right leg, propelling her into the air. The release of impossibly hot flames evaporated the water and snow obscuring all sight in the alleyway for but a moment.

As she flew through the air two things happen.

First, the world flashed, and she was somewhere else, a street just outside the ally, chasing the woman and the monstrosity, and then a car and darkness. And then she was in a building, and a man ran in, his eyes going wide and shooting his gun down at her, and then darkness.

Then the sound, an ungodly screech that ripped through her ears. Unable to continue with her movement her body crashed through the third story window of the building she was jumping to. She rolled to a rest, the glass giving her a cut on her arm and leg. She got up slowly, her hand covering her ears in pain.

“Aghhhh, oh Inari blessed. Stop the ringing.” She moaned in pain, unable to hear a thing, feeling the headache coming on already. She could feel the slight wetness in her ears, but her spiritual energy was already flooding them, trying to repair the damage. It took her a few seconds that felt like minutes until she was able to hear again, not as well as normal, but enough to make it out if someone was screaming. It would be a while before she could hear at even human capacity.

She looked around for a moment, before getting a severe sense of daja va. Then she saw the door swing open and her eyes widened, “Oh no.” The man ran in, a gun in hand, and in that moment Nanashi was already on him, her fist striking his chest, the flames increasing its force and knocking him back. She was only barely able to hear a dull ring as the gun went off, zipping by her ear. If she hadn’t moved just then…

She panted for a moment before she looked at the window, “So that’s your game huh?” Whatever she did, it triggered something. An alignment of negative fate? Well, that was going to suck for her. She was annoyed to admit it, but she owed her mother for this, she might have been screwed otherwise.

She could smell them, that horrid, horrid smell, getting further and further. “Not going to get away from me.” She ran out into the hallway, seeing the window at the end of the hall that lead to the main street, and booked it. Shooting fire she blasted out the window and jumped out, landing on a street light, she was able to see them again. “Heh, got you.” And then she jumped, trying to catch up to them without landing on the street. From street light to car to wall, never once landing on the pavement.

Fiona

Fiona looked hesitant for a moment, before nodding. It was odd, that a person could take such an impact and not even ask for help, or even accept it when offered. There could be so many things that explained it, but… on the off chance that she was a vampire thrall, or something along those lines, it might before the best.

So with sad look on her face and the feeling of hurt finding a place in her chest for suspecting the stranger, Oren’s words took root. “O-oh, you might be right.” She closed her eyes for a moment, before they snapped open with a level of focus that was unlike what was seen all day. “I’ll help.”

With those words a phantom wolf dashed from its spot watching the pair and leapt at Fiona, phasing into her. And at that her body changed, her hair becoming a brighter red, while a tail and ears seemed to form from the air. Slowing the world returned to normal, the roses turning into ghosts and vanishing from this world.

With a look at the surrounding area she nodded before hopping onto Oren’s lupine back, holding onto her fur, “Don’t fight the wind at your back, it will help move you along.” She whispered into Oren’s ear, “Now, let’s go.”

Fiona

Fiona watched the woman leave with a small frown, making sure the roses parted for her passage. As soon as she was out of sight Fiona let out a small sigh, letting her head droop slightly. Suddenly, an arm wrapped around her waist and Oren, once again in her human shape, pressed her back against her. A soft blush appeared on her cheeks.

Fiona pouted as she turned her head, so as to see Oren’s face, trying to ignore the hand brushing though her hair. It felt nice though. “Well, what was I supposed to do? What if she really needs help?”  Fiona pointed out.

That’s what heroes did. They helped people. Of course there were people that wanted to use her, that wanted to hurt her, but… what kind of world would she be living in if she thought the worse of anyone she met. Then a thought occurred to her, “Did you… notice something weird about her?”

12
Nanashi

Her trembling fist stayed in the air ready to respond at a moment’s notice. But her eyes were fixed, not on the monstrosity, not on the man, but the girl that stood defending the indescribable thing. “You… you know exactly what that this is. You put it in you yourself.” She was able to force out though her grit teeth. “You know just what was just let loose on the world… ”

Her vision, it made sense now, it made far too much sense now. Impossible and horrifying, it set a deep sense of revulsion deep in her core. It was something ‘else’, something that did not belong, something that would distort the world. She could see it now. It was bending space, shifting planes, crying worlds over lapping with this one. As her mother’s child, she could see it, she could feel it.

It was her duty, as one who understands what it is on some level, to stop it.

Her head tilted to the man staring at her, ready to attack at a moment’s notice, “Get out of here, that thing is dangerous. There is no telling how much damage it will cause if is allowed to go free.” Nanashi’s form lowered, one of her hand tapping against the pavement, and her focus changed back to the girl now defending the monstrosity.

“I’ll stop it here, for everyone’s sake. Cause like hell I am going to let it fuck over the Nexus, people have it hard enough. Then I will let the enforcers decide what to do with you.”  She told the girl as her scarf burned with light. The light was bright and encompassing, enveloping the alleyway in a blue glow and warmth.

Her right leg lifted off the ground slightly, before stamping onto the ground. As the black boot smacked against the pavement, fire burst to life. And with that her body glowed, the flames of her spirit awakening with their full might. Her body hunched over her eyes glowed, as her focus reached its peak. She was ready.

She was going to show this thing that you don’t get to fuck with her home. Not if she can do anything about it.

Fiona
“I guess so…” Fiona mumbled while crossing her arms over her chest. She hummed while tilting her head to the side and closing her eyes in thought. But she was shaken from them by the sound that came from her side.

Fiona heard Oren’s snort and turned to look up at her with a confused look. Only to let out a yelp and back away, her hand darting away from her fur, as the Stag dissolved, black muck sloshing on the ground. From the thing that could only be described as living slime a whole new beast appeared, Oren adopting the form of a draconian beast. Fiona’s eyes widened in shock, before she giggled giddily and moved back to Oren side, leaning against the cool scales of the dragon. “You can be a dragon too?!” She sighed in wonder, “That’s so amazing…”

Then her content smile turned into a small frown, “I wish I could turn into a dragon. It would be so cool. I could be like, whoosh, wham, rawr, and all that.” She mumbled quietly.

“Ah, I hope I didn’t antagonize your… dragon… whatever it is. He’s not going to try to eat me, is he?” She heard from Brigida. She turned back to look back at her, still leaning slightly on Oren.

“Its fine, my friend is just… a bit expressive is all?” She seemed to answer with a question, unsure herself, but Brigida a reassuring smile.

She got up and bowed, “I would be happy to give you some help. But I can’t really come with you right now. Sorry. I have to do my job also. And I have been slacking far too much as it was…” She looked honestly regretful.

Her head raised suddenly, a wide smile on her face, but it seemed forced. “I can send you a message when I will be able to help. I can tell you a bit about… this.” She gestured to the roses that covered everything. “Hopefully it will give you some insights.”

Her smile twitched slightly before is dropped and she looked to the ground, rubbing on her arms with her other. “I’m really, really sorry…”

Hey, I just want to apologize for leaving for Friday and yesterday. But hopefully you guys saw my message Thursday night.

However, I do want to apologize again, due to delays in when I was suppose to get back today from visiting my family I got home not long ago. That, combined with other work that I still need to do tonight means that I will unable to post tonight. However, I will be on skype tomorrow, and will also be able to post.

Sorry Kat, Dan and Umbra. I can give you guys further explanation as to why I was unable to post if you want.

But until then, see you tomorrow, and one last time, sorry.

Nanashi

Her eyes fixed on the distorting stomach, if this guy didn’t have any ideas then. Damn it was there anything she could do. All she could do was make fire, and fire would not be able to help with this thing, it was a monster IN someone.

It’s not like she could make the fire pass…

Wait.

Her eyes went wide as she looked at her hands. It was a long shot, but she could do it. She could kill this thing without killing the girl. Well, hopefully.

She closed her eyes for a moment, focusing her spiritual energy to her palms, and was about to move and place them on her distorting stomach before she heard it.

A wet sound echoed though the alleyway as a horrid smell assaulted her senses. Rotting fish, flesh, blood, pus, sewage, it was almost like a combination of all of them but at the same time worse in every way. It took everything she had to not throw up on the spot, only accomplishing that by the sight of what emerged from the girl making her freeze from the shock.

Her body trembled as she saw what emerged from it; a monster would be so simple to describe it, an abomination to lenient. Everything was wrong about it. Space bent around it, realms shifted and teared, and that was not even getting into its appearance. The scales, unnatural form. Everything was wrong about it.

Nanashi quickly scrambled to her feet and backed up, a look on her face that could only be described as shock, horror, and disgust.  She quickly glanced at the woman, only to see something emerging from her flesh to stitch her back together. And a cold and horrible realization dropped like a rock in her stomach.

“Oh, Inari blessed.” She mumbled, her voice trembling and body shaking, realizing just then she had basically accelerated this thing’s emergence. And so she raised her fist and let her energy begin pooling, ready to attack at a moment’s notice.

Fiona

Fiona smiled at the woman’s reassurance. Good, she was ok. That took a weight of her heart. Her subsequent question made her pause however, as her head tilted in confusion slightly.

“Well, Ms. Brigida, I’m Fiona, it’s nice to meet you.”  Fiona gave the woman a warm smile with her greeting. But there was still some hesitance. “But, what do you mean I can help you?”

It seemed weird how highly specific she was, saying she was looking for who was causing the plants. It’s not like plants can help them get home. Did they want her for access to the garden? How did they even know about it?

It was weird, but she would give them benefit of the doubt. It was the least she could do for someone so desperately trying to get home. She could understand that feeling.
