Enkidu sealed Gilgamesh's hand with his own, his expression solemn.

"My answer has not changed. Though the era and the circumstances change, my loyalty remains intact. Old friend, I longed for the moment we would become battle brothers again. Chaos can not be tolerated. In answer to your request, I will slain anybody and anything violating your kingdom. Let us build a place where humanity can prosper like in the past."

His face softened.

"We can skip festivities for the moment. However, I will gladly follow you to this palace. But before we go, I have one request, my King. Would you know of a device allowing me to communicate with people of this era?"

Enkidu smiled shamelessly, his eyes wandering towards the dragon.

"I wish to understand those who do not use the Unified Language."

----

In the end, the wounded lad had been taken by Vlad. It was a logical decision if they wanted to avoid unnecessary conflict with the man. Usually, Kyle would have emitted a complaint about selling out a guest but the guy seemed immortal and resourceful enough to escape his jailers once. Probably would be fine.

That's at least what he told himself as he entered the kitchen. The werewolf harvested the room in search of a large glass, fresh lemonade and fruits. With what he needed on a tray, he headed back to the infirmary. There, he found without surprise Elizabeth and Togg obviously keeping watch on their unconscious comrade.

"I'll take it from there. You guys can take a break. I reckon you didn't have food in you for a while, the kitchen's free right now. There are also showers and free beds on the third floor if you want to take a nap. I'll let you know when she wakes up."

With that said, he set down the tray near Samantha's bed and sit by her side. Then, he opened the novel he had picked up in the library and started reading.

Caressing the phoenix's feathers, Enkidu immediately nodded in response to Gilgamesh's inquiry.

"It is as you said. I have spotted unusual beings and phenomenons while wandering around this place. I remember this tall man clad in a white armor. His face was completely hidden behind a mask and he held tremendous power. I could not make sense of his motivations but I think he was introducing himself in a very loud and imperious way. Maybe he was some sort of buffoon since people threw money coins at his feet afterwards. He didn't picked them up though."

Of course, he was not part of strangest beings since his arrival. Enkidu had seen partly machine beings, demon hosts, evil spirits, elementals of all kind, demi-humans armed with weapons clearly not from this era, partly machine humanoids, divine entities and many more. Whatever was the phenomenon which allowed these irregularities to roam this plan of existence, it didn't discriminate when it came to choosing who to bring. He was at the same time thankful for that but also worried about the chaos it could bring to this place in where people lived.

"Should we do something about it?"

---

Kyle entered the infirmary once more carrying boxes asked by the doc. He immediately noticed the man turned into a weird parody of art. It appeared that people in the room were tense and ready to fight. He had heard the argument from outside but didn't expect to meet with one of the guys who had slaughtered all these people in the bar earlier.

Shit.

The black man placed the boxes near the wall and trying to defuse the explosive situation before things would go south, the werewolf approached Vlad. Showing no sign of tension nor hostility, he sat by a nearby bed.

"What my vampiric friend is trying to say is that we could perhaps reach for a compromise. Rules of hospitality being what they are, we can't decently accept to give this guy to you. However, we could offer compensation."

Fighting this guy, and his friends sure to follow, meant bad news.

Get the ones with white boxes. Wooden," he called behind him, "I need them.

"Got it."

Quote
I'm going to have to shoot her, won't I?

Quote
Just get the boxes and leave it to us. She'll be fine. Got it, boy scout? No one's dying today because we're telling Death to fuck off.

Kyle turned to the Cadian.

"So, says the man in charge. You have to stay focused on what you can do right now if you want to maximize her chances."

Kyle and the soldier ran to the vehicle waiting outside. He grabbed the first box and passed it onto his companion.

"Name's Kyle by the way. What's yours?"

Kyle scratched his head as the faerie shadow-walked out of the room. "Could've taken me there with you, damn it." The ruckus downstairs didn't escape his own attention so he too headed there. On his way, he came across a tall man with a tan and white hair accompanying a girl apparently in her teens. She looked a bit tired, probably woke up recently. These guys were very likely to be guests.

The black man addressed a wide smile to the couple, "Morning guys," before storming down the few stairs left and reaching the basement. He approached the infirmary and stopped motion as soon as he entered the room.

What's that horrendous smell??

He covered his nose with his arm as a reflex before looking for the culprit. Kyle had seen dead many times in the past and saw some creepy and disturbing stuff for as long as he remembered. But this, was something going beyond that. There was an unnatural remnant of corruption in this very room and it came from that soldier girl.  The wound was festering and he could even perceive some 'extra' life in this cut. The fragrance was strong enough to make a zombie carcass that had been rotting for hours under an equatorial sun compare to a nice perfume. He had to force himself to breath through the mouth to avoid emptying his stomach right where he stood.

Other people were tending to a man with apparently a piece of building piercing his torso. Forest was there, and the guy seemed to have all the help he needed for now. Couldn't tell the same for the poor girl.

Hey, I hate to bother you all. But, I need someone to get the rest of my equipment. And I have another new patient.

Apparently this guy knew what he was doing. He didn't smell quite human but that wasn't important right now. Kyle closed the distance with the soldiers and offered an encouraging tap on the man who looked clearly at loss about what to do. The man clearly needed to focus on something while his companion would receive whatever treatment could be done.

"Come on, man. Let's go fetch the rest of the doc's stuff."

Enkidu couldn't help but laugh in earnest seeing his old friend once again. Soon, he was assaulted by the King's curiosity and answered serenely.

"I'm sorry if I have burdened you with unnecessary pain. I thought myself dead too. What happened to me after we parted ways, I do not understand it myself. It felt... similar to a long slumber. Never truly conscious nor really awake. I simply wandered in thoughts for a period. I could tell time was passing but I had no way to tell how much. I was not master of my own body, only fated to stay in this state without the possibility to interact with the world beyond my own mind. My only wish was to meet once again my precious friend."

He paused and instant and his arm reached for Gilgamesh's, sealing them in a forearm handshake.

"I woke up recently in this strange town, in an age where gods have ceased to exist. What were the odds that our paths would overlap in this day and place? I do not know why we could meet again but, I entertain the idea that our bond was stronger than concepts of time and death. In the end, there is nothing anormal about a treasure to go back to the one it belongs to?"

Then, Enkidu gestured for the dragon to come closer. "This dragon is a companion of mine, he proved to have a strong will and noble heart. Sadly, I cannot understand it for the  Unified Language does not seem to be used these days. Still, he proved its valor and fought by my side. Although I do not know its name, he's worthy of praise." Enkidu then spoke to the wyrm directly. "Wingless One, this is Gilgamesh, King of Uruk and my old friend."

Then, there was the phenix who had come to their help out of its own will. Enkidu, gestured to the fire bird to come land on his shoulder. "This one joined as well. I am not sure why, but it looks somewhat familiar."

Kyle shrugged. "To be frank, I prefer it over 'Gabriel'. Matches better with someone who can push people into copulating with each other, don't you think? Even if the sprog isn't fond of it, I prefer to roll with that. Besides, I could come up with much worse if I wanted to, he's getting away pretty easily."

The question of gender didn't seem to matter for Wynn, which perplexed him. But what rubbed him the wrong way was another matter. "Gift is key? Are you saying that you would ignore the child if they weren't blessed with potential?"

The werewolf had a lopsided grin. "Oh, I'm all for trying new stuff myself. However, just like there's no way we can reach the concept of peace in this life, you can't let chaos running rampant either. A good balance is necessary." He paused, looking at her. "Otherwise, well, even the most refined and polished gems would crumble."

Leaning against the fridge, Kyle crossed his arms. "Well, that's one thing we have in common with Lucifer. Still, even I am not crazy enough to trigger Ash's ire if I can avoid it." It was true. There was a saying about Forest and the Iron Maiden. It told about how provoking Forest was considered stupid, and how doing the same with Ashylnn was suicidal. "That's good then. Wondered how long it would take for the brat to bring home a suitable woman. Hopefully she's part of the cracking lot."

It was actually real fun seeing the faerie acting so happy. He could understand her joy since she had never been able to interact much with her own son. Gabriel would kill his mother, or basically any faerie would they stand in his presence. Not that it was something he could turn on and off of his own volition. Kid was powerful enough to threaten the very existence of Faerie. He had even been the target of the Wild Hunt. Obviously, the prospect to obtain an heir for the House of Umbra was something which would rejoice Wynn who had been denied to bound with her blood and express her motherly instincts.

Kyle had been raised by a loving couple but in spite of that fact, had never pursued such contact with his family. Of course, he had some affection for the couple of old vampires but, if there was one person he considered a parent, it was Forest. That was the reason Wynn had teased him with the 'surrogate mother' term. Yet, they weren't as close as that. The werewolf  had kept a certain distance, because he knew that her whole attention should be on Gabriel. And her pupils. Those who had spent a long time by her side, sharing the same roof and learning much from the telepath. Kyle, well, he was just the guy who would stop by now and then.

Thus, Kyle could understand the desire to own a family of their own. "With lady luck's help, things will go your way. Would you prefer a grandson or granddaughter?"

It's better that way.

He didn't have the words. All he could do in this very instant was to observe silently the figure clad in gold getting rid of the Sphinx. The shining vault's openings rippling in the air as so many treasures were thrown at the beast. He had been hoping to see again this very radiance. How much did he long for meeting again this man capable of radiating such charisma. It had been a wish he never thought would be being granted.

Noises were gone and he couldn't even see his surroundings. His interest in pursuing the fleeing opponent was null. He didn't notice how his wounds caused by the Hydra's poison vanished. Nor did he pay attention to his draconic companion reverting to his original form. Even when the Phoenix insisted to catch his attention, Enkidu didn't react. He simply walked to get closer to the source of their victory.

"My King."

These words were spoken with all the respect and admiration one could mutter when exposed to the King of Uruk. However, as much as his instinct told him to, Enkidu didn't bend the knee before Gilgamesh. For he was the only man equal to him now and forever. The only one capable to stand by his side. The only one privileged enough to show such arrogance.

He was his friend.

I'm not sure who should post "first" in reaction to Ramesses II running away, between Phoenix, Lyco Aptera, Enkidu, or Gilgamesh.

Oh, you can go ahead and post.

Enkidu didn't react in time, surprised that the Sphinx would turn itself into an abrasive twister. He only had enough time to jump back to not end up sharing the same fate as the Hydra. However the tornado would be on him before he could land and get away. He knew that he couldn't escape unscathed, so he braced himself for the worst.

But assistance came in time. He couldn't do much but watch the wyrm surrounding his body in an attempt to shield him. The sheer violence of the wind would have been enough to uproot a large forest and sending the trunks flying everywhere. On top of that, sand and fire would cause added damage. Dragons were sturdy creatures. He could only hope this much wouldn't be life threatening.

"Thank you, friend."

Enkidu pondered over a way to counterattack. There wasn't much to do now that the opponent had taken the battle to the sky. The phoenix would probably not give up at that point but there were no guarantee it could win. Neither him nor the Wingless One could go to its help separately. Even if Enkidu could make his approach unnoticed, fighting a flying elemental beast in its element while unable of flight himself, was straight up suicide. However, he was not fighting by himself. His eyes drifted to his companion doing its best to endure the scathing hurricane upon them.

"I need you to throw me!!" He announced, ignoring the noises produced by the storm.

Against a Hydra that could regenerate and even multiply, there were limited options. The main one being to obliterate it whole in one go. It would require time and power. Two things available at the moment but it would go against the whole point Enkidu and his friend got involved in this battle. If he were to triumph over the arrogant man clad in gold, he couldn't allow such a method for it would bring even more attention to them.

So he would go for the most efficient and likely to succeed plan. Something he wouldn't consider were it another fight but as things were unfolding, the beasts were creating such a ruckus time was running against all of them. Getting rid of the one who brought forth the threat was the most expeditious way to finish this conflict. Thankfully the steam released would help in that matter.

Enkidu dodged aside the first jaw aiming for him, crouched under the second head attacking and jumped on the one following. The giant sword remodeled itself into chains, spreading everywhere around the Hydra's numerous necks and its large body. With precise aim, he stabbed the creature to take control of its mobility, forcing the serpentine monster to submission. The lethal poison did a number on the man of clay but not enough to weaken him significantly. Once he got a better footing on the skull he was standing on, he pulled on the chains, strengthening his control on the Hydra and launched it in a charge against the Sphinx.

His plan was simple. Using the Hydra to rush the other Divine Beast. Since those had been summoned by the false king, they would probably refuse to attack him at all or perhaps was there even a contract forbidding it. But would that extend to their fellow creatures? There was only one way to now. And that meant slamming the Sphinx head on while using the newly created fog as cover. It would only create an opening but it would suffice.

With that, all that was left to do would be to finish off the summoner.

I shall allow you to check on your surrogate mother.  She has had quite the rough evening from what I have gathered.

He tensed up but realized that if Forest was in trouble, Wynn wouldn't appear so unconcerned about it. It was probably something that appeared trivial to the fae, meaning either mundane or moral matters.

He smiled. "Isn't it standard for Law Unto Herself to run into problems? Or perhaps it is  related to the intimate fluids and unfamiliar people's scent that I perceive. I smell virgin blood too... And is that burnt flesh? Did I just miss the SM orgy of the century?"

Joke aside, he wondered what kind of mood the Landlady was in at the moment.

"Certainly wise to wait a bit to go greet her then."

Quote
No, the Detective is not here.  I have no idea where that crass individual is.

"Probably wasting his intellect somewhere." He got closer to Wynn and whispered to her. "Do you think she would ask to much question if she found his cold body lying in a pool of his own blood? Not that I would actually do it but you know."

However, there is some good Indian food in the kitchen I would suggest partaking in.

"Thanks, I'm not that hungry but if you have something solid to drink, I'll take that." He walked to the kitchen and checked the dishes left. It looked good but not enough to stimulate his appetite so early in the morning. "I'm actually surprised you would find such mundies food to your taste, Wynn."

Hopefully it works better.

Sorry for the late update guys.

Quote from: Ramesses
Ants do not dominate the Beasts of the Gods by being ants, you degenerate eunuch. And yet here I stand. No King greater than I exists, and seeing as you are no king, I see not how you can prove me wrong", he snarled, "for no eunuch peasant shall tell me I am not supreme in all my glory!

Enkidu shook his head as fiery rain fell on him with no apparent damage. "How pitiful, you are but a puppet still dancing in the palm of your own delusions. A King must not let anyone, above or under the Heavens dictate his conduct, for Gods were not meant to rule over men."

The green-haired hero raised an arm as he aimed for the ophidian's heads entangled with tree branches. His own limb grew, twisted and flattened in the shape of a sword far exceeding the scale of what a human body could manipulate. With this unnamed blade, one the size of a skyscraper, Enkidu slashed horizontally with the intention of getting rid of the numerous heads and attacking his heroic opponent in one swift and powerful movement.

"Proof is, the Gods are long dead and so is their era. Your taming of their previous pets does not impress me, Impostor. For I battled the Bull of Heaven itself and, alongside my old friend, emerged victorious."

It hadn't been a mistake to rebel against the Gods, Humanity had no need for their guidance.

A beam of sheer destruction fell on the false king as the creation of gods launched his own attack, the source being the embodiment of the sun, an elemental of fire and for many, an inspiration for many legends. Enkidu felt a familiar radiance from above and felt his soul resonate with the phoenix's cry.

Quote from: Wynn
You look well, Kyle.

The werewolf didn't look surprised when it was Wynn who opened the door. Her fragrance had been the first indicator of course, but she was someone who liked to know who visited what she considered her own. From what he knew, Forest didn't like this aspect of their relationship but copped with it. You couldn't maintain such an old relationship without some compromises.

Kyle always thought of her as an interesting person. Sure, she was cold, condescending and rather pragmatic at times, but if you considered the fact that she was born Unseelie, it was pretty obvious she was rather warm. Still, he wouldn't want to end up as her enemy, most wouldn't survive that long to boast about it. And even if he did, who would want to live in fear from shadows at all time?

Still, good thing, she had not been around earlier on when he was still under the bite's effect. With such a figure, his mental fortitude would have been placed under quite the stress. His gaze naturally attracted to her figure, delaying his answer slightly.

"So do you, Lady Umbra. As usual, your presence illuminate my day." He gave her a wink as if they were best buddies, dropping out all pretence to act in such a dignified manner any longer. "Just passed by to check on you guys. Seeing if everything's alright and stuff. I suppose you got some interesting peeps in there." He sniffed the air and he detected spices, an overuse going by his standards. He glanced over Wynn's shoulder for an instant. "May I come in? I don't plan to bother you too long. Even more so if that yobbo clairvoyant is around."
