THE VAMPIRE DISTRICT

Without a doubt the bleakest place under the sun because the sun never shines on the dead. Truth be told, you'd have a hard time catching sunlight here regardless of the season, for thick mist like gases cling to this place like an old carpet. The air is safe for breathing though, probably.

This place is home to largest 'coven' of vampires, but with them being the way they are, there's hardly any unity. They number in the thousands with most of them being rather young. There's also a decently sized human population living here who manages various public relations offices, all for the sake of preventing visitors from snooping around where they are not supposed to go. Most of the vampires living here don't like having to act friendly with humans after all.

Nominally speaking Vampire King Valerie is the leader, however she retired long ago, letting Duke Taro take over and he's been tirelessly trying to improve the publics perception of their kind.

Death's Cradle

An old Gothic style castle, it's grand opulence can appear spooky to some, even more so considering who lives there. It's no secret this is the home of a benovelent vampire. Despite that your average citizen still shy far away from it, better safe than sorry after all. If one were to approach the castle through the maze like orchard surrounding it, they'd come to see the pumpkin heads that eternally lits up it's halls and grounds.

You are unlikely to see any birds here as a large colony of bats has this their home. These bats are quite unusual as they are active during both night and day. They've pretty much competed all other flying wildlife away from the area through sheer agression, although they seem to leave humanoids alone.

There's also a dungeon with prison cells and an armory, although both have fallen out of use in recent years, the weapons that remain are terribly outdated and merely kept around as a collection, a record of the past, or her very own museum as she likes to call it. The owner is more than willing to give anyone who's interested an extensive tour if asked, that is too say if she's home, as she's been known to roam the Nexus at random hours much to the annoyance of the current Chief.

Culture

Yeah, they are savages, thirsting for human blood and tears without end, but there's some who wish to change that. Or at the very least try to be better. There's no real central administration, rather it's age and status that governs the interpersonal relationships. It's in essence feudal, with the other races who live here treated hardly better than serfs in the days of yore.

You're unlikely to be assaulted on the streets here though, all things considered the district is still incredibly orderly and you will be hard pressed to find a safer place during the hours of sunlight. Night time is a bit trickier though as it is usually at this time that the masters of this land feed....

Politics

The current rulers maintain control with an iron fist in spite of their limited influence. The status of Duke Yaro is far too cemented to ever be questioned internally, those who do oppose him wields no tangible influence. Although with how long their kind persists, it's not unknown for plots to span centuries. However if any change is to occur within this land in the now, it will have to come either from his own hand, the words of his 'master' or from outside.

Pine Garden

One of the richer districts in the nexus, not because of the general prosperity of the area, but due to some of the people who live there. Nothing better exemplifies the difference in wealth and status than this district. It's split up into two distinct sections, The Hillside and the Valley.

On the Hillside is where all the wealth and power in the area is clustered. It's an exorbitant and borderline disgusting display of "prosperity". Mansion upon sparkling mansion blots the entire hill, the influence of the people living here casting a shadow both metaphorically and literally on the people living below in squalor. The average Nexus resident could only dream to live here as the property prices are higher than they'll ever make in their entire lives.

After a recent disaster known as the Blight, a large chunk of the Valley has been left devastated. What was once a sprawling collection of middle class urban residential areas have mostly been reduced to smoldering ruins for the lowest situated parts in the valley. Those living a bit further up still have functioning infrastructure to support them tho. Down where the concentration of Blight was at it's strongest, the water itself has turned toxic and the vegetation has died, there's even rumors of strange beasts being spotted.

The Harrington Estate

A Millenia old mansion belonging to the Harrington family. It's located close to the center of the Hillside and is currently owned by Chief of Pine Garden, Lady Amanda Harrington. It's pristine walls present a symbol of respect, or at least they used to be until the rumors about the current spread.

Despite what it's inviting appreance may tell you, approaching uninvited could spell disaster for you. Ever since it was raised, layers upon layers of protective measures have been added and the current mansion you see today is in fact not even there really. The actual mansion is hidden inside of a seperate pocket dimension with the house you see from outside merely being a projected image of what it looks like, the only physically existing object is the door which is the gateway in. The interiors themselves have been reinforced too in order to withstand all but the mightiest of blows as well as filled with numerous deadly traps that will bathe any intruder in the wrath of the elements.

Culture

Since the Nobles are surrounded by such extravagant wealth in every concievable form, money itself has almost entirely lost value as a means of transaction between them. All that matters are the percieved prestige you posses and the exchange of favours. Favours can be almost anything from the smallest of things to lifedebts and most of them can be traded freely within this domain

Naturally down in the Valley things are a lot different. Regular old capitalism rules the day, although the gang activity is fairly high here. Some believe the gangs are merely pawns of the nobles above, that they influence them and pit them against each other for their amusement. Such thoughts however are better not spoken in public as the eyes and ears of the Nobility reach far and wide.

Or so it used to be. The Blight has changed the dynamics quite a lot. The gangs practically collapsed as their Noble backers pulled out upon seeing the Blight take form. The Valley is now in danger of being written off as a failed investment. If that were to happen the money flow down would stop all together, but so would the influence of the Nobles. Perhaps the Valley will become its own autonomous state in the future, one much poorer than before yet free from the tyranny of those up high.

Another thing of note are the "New Nobles". Despite their 'name' these people are not actually Nobility yet they live on the Hillside. They're merely people who have acquired huge wealth recently and essentially bought their way in. It should come to no surprise that the older families look down on them and in some cases see them as even worse trash than the rabble down below, for they have dared to rise above their stations.

Politics

While you might think the Chief is the one with final say in this district, that's not the case here even though you'd actually be right ordinarily. As it stands, the true power in this District is held by the Council of Nobles. They make all the decisions and the Chief is the one who executes them. Traditionally, the most powerful Noble is the Chairman of the Council, they hold the most sway and is therefore also the Chief.

However that tradition has been challenged recently as Lord Russel's faction have gained enough power to take direct control, yet have chosen not to do so. This created a whole lot of confusion as well as uncertainty in the Council that still persist to this day. Furthermore, the rumor that the current Chief is Lord Nelson's pet only serves to make this situation even more volatile, whether it's true or not.

Rules

1.) Treat Other Players With Respect. Golden Rule here. Treat others how they want to be treated. If you have a problem with another player, do not spout insults at them. Bring your qualm to them in a polite manner. If that does not work, please alert the GMs.

Remember: Your narrative will not necessarily survive interaction with other characters, and vice-versa. This is unavoidable, but respect other players and expect respect from them. Rolling with the action is often a better way to write a cool story than opposing a development because you didn't plan for it.

2.) Thou Shall Not Meta Game Or Godmode. If you have knowledge that your character could not possibly have, don't give it to them without a reasonable explanation. There will not be any Godmoding here either. You will get smote, and smote hard.

3.) Do Not Control Another Person's Character. This means if you say, "Character X punched Character B." You would stop right there and give the other player time to respond. DO NOT say, "Character X punched Character B, and Character B went down like the little bitch he is." You give the other player a chance to respond. Hell, Character B could be a master martial artist who could block the punch and pull the other character in an arm lock in retaliation while Character X is just some Normal Dude.

4.) Don't Be an Asshole. Exactly what it sounds like. You're not allowed to go after someone because you don't like them or are having a fight with them. You're not allowed to go into an interaction with the intent of killing or maiming somebody else's character to the point of unplayability. If you can logically avoid doing so, don't do it. Basically, try to play nice.

However, this rule is not meant to serve as an overarching plot armour. If your character acts like a moron and jumps in front of Excalibur, they will almost certainly die. If your character provokes a stronger character into beating the snot out of them, they will suffer the natural consequences of doing so, including serious injuries if it ends up resulting in them.

5.) Show, Don't Tell. Or rather demonstrate, don't explain. Some times info dumps are needed, but if your character is a smart ass bad ass, show them being a smart ass bad ass. Don't just say they are, back up your claims, and that also means no having other characters who don't know the one character suddenly talk about your character being the smart bad ass without reason to do so. We want this to be a fairly well written RPG.

6.) For the Love of God, Please Try To Make Your Posts Readable. It’s no fun if one’s posts aren’t able to be read. Use proper capitalization, spacing, and punctuation in your posts whenever possible. If there are constant infractions, GM action will be taken. This should be a fairly well written RP that others can read like a story if they wanted.

7.) Give other players time to respond. Now sometimes two players will go on a tangent with themselves. It's expected and can be fun, and if their interaction is separate from most everyone its fine. Plus it would be expected in a love scene between two characters. Now if there is an event and other people are trying to catch up slow down. Like if a group of players are fighting something, and one of them has trouble catching up, give them time to respond.

However this should be a fairly consistent RP; therefore we urge people to post at least within a 48 hour time frame from the last post. If people exceed this time limit then warnings may be given and if this behavior persists it may result in the loss of rights to the 4th slot; or even one of the initial base three depending on how severe it is. However, during times of heavy action (large fights) this time window is lowered to 24 hours from the last post. This is due to fights feeling disjointed if too much time passes without any action and it's much easier for players to lose interest that way.

8.) This is an Adult RP. Adult things will happen, such as relationships and sex. There will be erotic content in this RP. If you're not comfortable with that, do not join or just say so and anything that could happen with your characters will happen "off screen".

9.) Three Characters Characters are Allowed Per Player. Depending on how this RP goes, the character cap may be upped.

Another extra PC sheet is possible provided the player proves themselves capable of fielding another and maintain a commitment to the RP. This may be revoked if they fail to continue to meet these two standards. If at some point you wish to play another character but your roster is already maxed out, or you want to temporarily retire a character you are not doing much with, you can ask the GMs/Mods to Bench that character. If at any time in the future you want to play them again, you do not have to undergo the character approval process, and you can just ask a GM/Mod to take them out of the benched characters (and presumably exchange them with another character you currently have approved.)

10.)Alternate Selves. Since this is a Multi-Dimensional RP, multiple versions of one character will be allowed, but only one per player and only three versions of one character allowed at a time.

11.) Power Levels. Characters in this RP are only allowed to be so powerful, but this is not enforced with an exact cap due to the diversity of abilities that can appear in CE. Context is more important to determine this: characters with capabilities that can easily distort the setting, such as all Legendary ranks or easily accessed Divine magic, are overpowered, but many of the Servants from Fate or similarly powerful superhumans are still acceptable.

12.) The Player Knows Their Character Best. If a player has a character that has an ability to read others such as their desires and base selves and wishes to use it, they need to get in touch with the player who’s character their character wants to read. Say Character 66 can know a person’s most secret, hidden desires. They read Character 69- 66’s player has to go to 69’s player to find out what their deep, hidden desire is. They just cannot guess it outright.

Character Sheets

Scale

Physical attributes run on a scale from Human to Godly.

This scale determines how impressive that character is in that characteristic. Each level represents a relatively broad range of power, as described below.

Magic Scale

The Magic attribute is a non-standard stat that identifies how powerful one's magical might and default maximum output (in effect and radius) with magic are. It runs on a scale going from None to Divine, with None meaning no magic. (If your character's rank in Magic Power is None, you may omit it from the sheet.) The scale exists on a different context but is directly comparable to the Physical Attribute scale, from the Amazing-Low ranks up.

These ranks only describes the potency of a character's magic, so its applicability and flexibility must be defined in the extended description along with its workings and basic capabilities.

Throw: You can throw anything at least one rank below what you can deadlift.
Soak: You can take direct damage from the same rank without being heavily injured.
Sprint: A sustained run is generally lower than a sprint, down to the rank below.
React: You generally can react - though not necessarily respond - to things the rank above your Agility, and as much as two above when it makes sense.
Godly is a rank that effectively represents arbitrary amounts of power, and is deliberately broad in turn.

Willpower Table

Total Bitch WimpyAverageGrittyZenShounen Determinator
Has almost no resistance whatsoever to manipulations. Even a random passerby telling them what to do would be enough to make them comply with their wishes. All manipulations, supernatural or otherwise, succeed. While they are capable of functioning normally in Nexus society, they're often known as the coffee boy at their workplace, and are generally looked down upon. Bullying somebody of this rank into serving you can be as easy as dangling a carrot in front of their face, or threatening them with a stick. All supernatural mental manipulations automatically succeed on them.A normal human going about their everyday bussiness. They won't be easy to completely walk over and abuse in a conversation, but possess little-to-no resistances to supernatural assaults. Unless one is attempting to force them to attack their loved ones or family, or to go utterly against their morals and ethics, all supernatural manipulations succeed. Stronger assaults can force them to take actions regardless. Most player characters will fall into this catagory, as well as many non player characters of note. Capable of shrugging off more egregious psycic assaults, they remain vulnerable to more extreme, subtle, or specific attacks upon their psyche. Truly exceptional individuals fall into this catagory, those who have trained their minds to extreme degrees and reached the apex of mental ability. Most psychic attacks fail, although truly powerful telepaths can still batter their minds and hinder them in combat. Those who have transcended humanity and broken the apex to reach truly unfathomable heights. They are capable of shrugging off or completely ignoring all psychic assaults through sheer willpower.

Intimacies

Motivation does not exist in a vacuum. An Intimacy is an anchoring point for an individual’s force of will, the causes, principles, or individuals/objects (Ties) for or against whom they can muster up reserves of personal strength beyond their normal limitations. They also represent vulnerabilities which may be exploited in order to manipulate someone toward desired behaviors they would not normally be susceptible to. These Intimacies cannot under normal circumstances cannot reduce someone to a Total Bitch. There are two levels of Intimacies based on their intensity: Lesser and Greater. Positive circumstances do not stack but they can negate the negative ones. The negative ones on the other hand do stack.

Lesser Intimacies are some of the most important things to a person’s life. They can be political, religious, or social causes to which they have devoted the majority of their time and energy towards, relationships which they put before almost anything else, or principles which define their actions in almost all aspects of their lives. People will persevere and suffer for their Lesser Intimacies and thusly will be able to maintain their willpower rank even if something is negatively affecting them, as long as they're working towards that intimacy. When acting in defense of a Lesser Intimacy you may generally outperform other individuals of equivalent physical stat rank and skill to yourself who are not similarly motivated. In the case where there's only a negative influence from an intimacy through perhaps clever exploitation by another person, the person in question will fall a whole rank in will as well as perform worse in comparison to a person of equal strength and skill.

Examples
Lesser Tie: My Wife (Devotion)
Lesser Principle: “I must live by the code of Bushido.”
Lesser Cause: Columbian Independence
Lesser Phobia: Zombies

Greater Intimacies go even further beyond this. Even the absolute certainty of death or worse is not normally enough to dissuade someone from seeking to act upon an Intimacy of this level, which is generally found in suicidal fanatics and devoted soulmates. Even in the most dire of psychological circumstances a person can muster the strength to function for the sake of fulfilling a Greater Intimacy, functioning at a whole degree beyond their limit. When acting in defense of a Greater Intimacy you may temporarily fight against opponents superior to you. These effects may include bursts of impossible strength or speed, or drawing upon greater reserves of psychic or magical power than are normally capable of. However, if you're negatively affected by a Greater Intimacies, you'll suffer a whole 2 ranks decrease in willpower as well as a greater penalty to your fighting ability since you're effectively at war with yourself at that point. You'll also fall a whole rank in Strength and Agility as well as Magic Rank.

Examples
Greater Tie: My Nemesis (Hatred)
Greater Principle: “All ninjas must perish.”
Greater Cause: The Advancement of Knowledge
Greater Phobia: Social Interaction
