Dark side of the moon novel project.
« on: June 17, 2014, 07:06:36 PM »
Whether or not the following idea will become a visual novel for the site I'm not sure, but I think creating an original story and characters (even possibly a mascot) would be good for the site. The basic idea is as follows:

A shifting world (based on the phases of the moon) changes setting each time the moon does. The characters remain the same (although appropriate for context) people, but the rest changes.

The conflict would come against the moon "goddess" and her generals.

The primary hero would change with the setting, that way every member of the cast would get time in the spotlight.

While I want feed back and want further involvement from the users on site, I feel it prudent to say the following.

I advise the following people to stay away from the thread:

Arch
Kat
Brah

The fact is that I'm heading the project here, and these users have irreconcilable differences with me. In order to keep the peace, I ask that they leave this project alone.

As a little precaution: Arch, Kat, Brah, you're probably not interested in this, and thus, as the above says, it's advisable you stay away from this thread. Please. And I do mean, PLEASE. If you don't, there will be consequences.

That is all.

OK, well, I'm interested in this. Do you have more details about the setting? And, what sort of involvement from other people are you looking for?

I have several questions: How does the World shift? What kind of conflict are we talking about here? What is the conflict about, exactly?

It shifts in a meta physical sense. World A is full of say adventurers on a quest, when the world changes world B would have characters on a business trip. Same general situation, the characters are unaware of the other settings (at least, at first)

the conflict depends largely on the details of the enemies themselves.

I'm looking for cooperation developing the story and characters. If we make it a vn we'll need more though

Well, when you say generals, that brings to mind large scale military conflicts.

General was more in the shonen context, like a bunch of strong dudes with powers. Although it could be literal, that's up for debate.

Are the generals and the goddess aware of the fact that the world is shifting?

That is the typical nature of Shonen generals. I would think the goddess would be the cause of the shifting although why would depend on what we want the goddess to be, machine, god, advanced human etcetera.and if we want her to be evil or not.

Please don't call them generals unless they coordinate troops on the division level on up. It bugs the ever living daylight out of me.

Nitpicky, yeah, but still. Call them Lieutenants if they are just going to be the Goddess' lackeys and not really lead any large group of people. Might not be in the military sense, but it is the better alternative.

Thing is Mand, we haven't decided if they have troops or not, they might have little miniboss guys under each guy's command.

If she's not evil, then why would they be fighting her?

Even then, the term "General" is a bit misleading. Generals command armies of thousands....

Plenty of stories have antagonists that are sympathetic or that are heroic extremists or otherwise are actually heroic but are misunderstood. We don't have to have her as evil necessarily.

Commander then? How does commanders work for you guys as a term?
